Modelado 3D del Vórtice Polar Austral

Abstract


In this work a quasi-tridimensional shallow water model was implemented to model the austral polar vortex. The equations set was integrated using a spectral method based on the
eigenfuctions of the shallow water operator over the sphere, in the vertical interpolation using cubic splines was applied between two successive levels of the physical computational
domain. The lower boundary layer condition was given by the tropopause temperature data from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forescasting. This model was
calibrated using other semi empiric models that and was able to reproduce several of deformation events of the polar vortex.
