Validación de Modelos en Mecánica Computacional

Luis A. Godoy, Patricia M. Dardatti

Abstract

Validation is one of the fundamental problems faced by a researcher working in the development of a numerical model. An important concern is the criteria to be used in
the assessment of results. This work reports an analysis and classification of the papers published in twelve consecutive issues of an important journal in computational mechanics. The results obtained illustrate what are the practical ways in which validation is carried out in computational mechanics, and may help researchers in this field to select the methodology to validate their work according to the criteria most frequently accepted by members of the scientific community. The results also illustrate that researchers in computational mechanics do not heavily rely on experimental results as a way of validation.
