Abstract

In this work, the Monte Carlo method is employed fora probabilistic analysis of reinforced concrete beams. Concrete and steel properties, cross section dimensions and loads are considered as random variables. Concrete properties are modeled as homogeneous random fields Expected values and variances of the structural response are obtained through simulations Thus, it is possible to define bands for the structural response with a given probability of occurrence. Available experimental results are used to validate the adopted model The Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the safety obtained in the structural design. Recommendations of the CEB are adopted in the dimensioning of beams and the safety level is evaluated by means of the reliability index which is obtained through simulations
