Análisis Biomecánico de la Unidad Vertebral Funcional L4-L5 Mediante Elementos Finitos

Arturo M. Cassano, Víctor D. Fachinotti

Abstract

Human spine is composed of a serie of osseous pieces linked by disks and ligaments. Even its appropiate structural configuration, the spine is sensible to mechanical failure. Intervertebral disk in lumbar region tends particularly to degenerative damage. Although exact etyology of lumbar disorders is unknown, it is realized that mechanical factors play an important role. This work shows a mechanical analysis on the L4-L5 jimctional lumbar vertebral unit using Finite Element Method. Analysis includes 2D and 3D configurations. A brief description describing anatomy of lumbar region and L4-L5 vertebral unit is given. Most critical biomechanical pathologies are treated: lesions caused by compression and composed flexure-torsion effects. Results
andjilture projects are discussed in the last section.
