Abstract

The aim of this work is to introduce FTR: a radial, three-phase (gas-oil and water) numerical simulator of flow towards a producer well. Conventional reservoir simulators do not represent the behavior of a single well adequately. Wells are considered as source or sink terms in the equations. and represented using strong simplifications. Hence the need of single well simulators, such as FTR, that provide greater accuracy in the simulation of a single well by means of representing its operation conditions as boundary conditions. FfR refines the analysis of pressure and saturation as the flow approaches the well by means of a radial grid with logarithmic spatial increments. In addition FTR is simpler and requires less data than a conventional simulator. In order to test the performance of FTR, two cases are considered: (1) for single-phase oil flow, FTR's results reproduce the analytic solution and (2) for oil-gas flow. FfR's results are an adequate approximation to those obtained with the black-oil BOAST simulator.
