Abstract

In this research, the formulation of finite elements and numerical methods necessary to describe some phenomena that take part in the non-linearity of the mechanical behaviour of reinforced concrete walls submitted to severe cyclic loading, are presented. Among the main mechanisms to be
considered are those related· to the concrete biaxial behaviour and to craclcing. essential characteristics of the reinforced concrete elements. An adequate description of cracking also requires a refined behaviour modelling the reinforced concrete of simulate idequately the loading
transfer from the concrete to the reinforced and further simulation of the ductile behaviour desired in the structures. For the structure simulation of reinforced concrete walls, it is possible to model the most dominant effects of the response as a problem of plane tensions being precisely this kind of
modelling wich is discussed in the presenl study.
