Modelado Computacional de Fallas en una Turbina de Vapor

Juan C. Belmonte, Enrique Pardo

Abstract

A Finite Element Analysis of transient thermal stresses during start up of a 70 MW steam turbine was conducted in order to determine the limiting conditions of operations.
The experience with similar turbines has shown that distortions in the casings may be produced by high thermal gradients. Although the manufacturing company establishes adequate conditions for safe operation of the turbine, these conditions are difficult to match due to operational limitations.
After adjusting thermal parameters of the model, by comparing numerical results with thermocouple measurements, several simulations of thermal stresses were carried out. An alternative start up procedure was
proposed, compatible with the actual operation limitation.
