Abstract

It is modelled the unidimensional motion of a Newtonian fluid through a porous slab bounded by two impermeable walls. Initially at time zero, is given an initial distribution of fluid at rest in the slab, one wants to determine the motion of the fluid for subsequent times due to concentration gradients. A model based on Mixture
theory is used. The two constituents being a rigid solid (porous slab) and a newtonian fluid. The motion of the mixture is described by a nonlinear hyperbolic non-homogeneous system of equations. The systam is solved numerically using a factorization of the operator into two parts, one of which is solved by the Glimm-Chorin method and the other by a standard method of finite-differences. Some typical results are presented and the transient solution approach the known equilibrium solution.
