Beam with Random Field and Entropy Propagation

Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of two probabilistic models of the flexural stiffness of a beam on its frequency response. The probabilistic models of the stochastic field are constructed using the maximum entropy principle, where different information is considered, such as bounds, mean value, etc. Each probabilistic model has a level of entropy; as the information given increases, the level of entropy of the model decreases. The response of the computational model of the beam is given in the frequency domain, and the entropy of the response is analyzed. Doing so, it is possible to quantify the propagation of the information, given the costruction of the probabilistic model, measured by Shannon’s entropy, throughout the system.
