Abstract


This work presents a hierarchical ¯nite element formulation applied to p adap-
tive re¯nement process in °uid-structure dynamic analysis. The error estimator was de-
veloped to °uid-structure problems in Potential Velocity formulation. This paper shows
that this error estimator can be applied to a pressure formulation procedure. The nu-
merical ¯nite element solutions is obtained using structural beam elements and triangular
hierarchical ¯nite elements in an acoustic domain. A consistent interface model and re-
¯nement is presented. The numerical procedure is tested using analytical and numerical
solutions for a classical 2-dimensional plate-cavity coupled system. The adaptive process
and the error estimator gives improved global results with acceptable computational cost.
