Abstract
The aim of this work is to present the potentialities of the discreet elements
method (DEM) in the study of problems of propagation of fissures, determining the speed
of crack propagation and capturing the effect of the crack branching, keeping in mind the
influence in the way of the tip of the fissure in the crack pattern. This work is part of an
investigation project that one comes carrying out in the Mechanics Department of
Engineering of University UNNE-Argentina.
